Social Dance Code of Conduct
Welcome! We’re committed to creating a fun, respectful, and inclusive space for everyone. Please help us maintain a positive dance environment by following this code of conduct.
1. RESPECT PERSONAL SPACE
Social dancing is a shared experience built on mutual comfort. Always ask—never grab or pull someone onto the floor. Respect your partner’s physical and emotional space, and if they seem hesitant or uncomfortable, give them room.
2. CONSENT
Anyone can say no to a dance or to a move, or stop a dance, at any time. No explanation needed. Consent must be mutual and ongoing, especially in sensual styles. What someone wears is never an invitation for physical contact or inappropriate behavior.
3. SAFETY ON THE FLOOR
NO lifts, tricks, flips, or aerials. These can endanger your partner and those around you. Save them for the performance stage.
Any dips or off-balance positions should only be done with express consent—and only if you’ve had proper training. Never take someone off their center without clear agreement; you don’t know what’s going on with their body, even if they’re a pro. This applies to followers too—avoid dipping yourself.
Always watch your spacing. Stay in your area and avoid collisions. Be aware of your styling and arm movement in tight spaces. And please no drinks on the floor or near DJ equipment.
4. ETIQUETTE & RESPECT
Don’t teach or correct on the floor unless asked. Apologize if you bump someone—it happens! Everyone is welcome to lead, follow, or switch. Please respect your partner’s chosen role, regardless of their gender.
Be gracious, kind, and inclusive. If you’re more experienced, dance with someone new—your kindness builds community.
5. HYGIENE MATTERS
Dance is a contact sport. Please come fresh, wear deodorant, and bring breath mints.
6. HARASSMENT & CREEPY BEHAVIOR
Harassment is not tolerated. This includes unwelcome sexual advances, inappropriate touching, or any verbal, physical, or nonverbal behavior that is threatening, demeaning, or disregards a boundary that has been set—such as sexual comments, persistent flirting, lingering stares, leering, mocking, following someone, blocking exits, or refusing to take “no” for an answer.
7. IF SOMETHING FEELS OFF, SPEAK UP
If you experience or witness behavior that concerns you, let a staff member or DJ know. We are here to help. We all share responsibility for keeping our dance floor safe and welcoming.
8. ATTENDANCE IS AT OUR DISCRETION
We reserve the right to ask anyone who violates these guidelines to leave. Repeated or serious violations may result in a ban from future events and notification to other organizers. Attendance at our events is at the sole discretion of the organizers.
